Halloween is a holiday that is as scary as it is fun. The meaning of this special day, which is celebrated on October 31st every year, is the end of summer and it reflects the beginning of a new era. The main colors of Halloween are orange and black. This is because these colors remind us of autumn. Orange reminds us of the warmth of autumn and the last harvest period, while black reminds us of the cold, dark winter.
Whether you’re doing it with flatmates, other international students, and interns, there are lots of decorating ideas for Halloween that you can easily make at your student flat. We have compiled the ones we liked the most in this article!
Get ready to scare your friends and international students👻
Pumpkin Vase 🎃
One of the most used decoration products in Halloween is a pumpkin. This is because pumpkins are harvested during this period, and their orange hue colors fit into Halloween decorations. You can easily find one of the orange or other colored pumpkins in grocery stores in October. You can turn the pumpkin into a vase and turn it into a masterpiece by putting dried flowers on it.
Bat made of cardboard 🦇
Buy your black cardboard paper now because you’ll love these 3D bat decorations! Whether you stick it on your wall or dangle, these decorations go everywhere. You can make a lot of these and apply them anywhere in your home. If you have a tall vase that you don’t use, spray paint it black, put long twigs in it and spray paint them as well. Then, when you stick the bats you prepared on it, you can create an eerie atmosphere in the student flat.
Ghost Lights 👻
We like these little ghostly lights, and you can easily make them at your student flat. For this you need small LED lights, ping pong balls and gauze. If you can’t find a ping pong ball, don’t worry! You can make small spheres yourself with some paper and glue! Draw ghost faces on these spheres any way you want, put a piece of gauze over them and attach them to the LED lights that way. Here are your lights ready for Halloween!
Flower Wreath 🌹
The main thing you need for a flower wreath is these metal frames. You can usually find them at places that sell frames or cross-stitch, or online. If you are looking for a simpler way, you can easily make circles by crimping a piece of metal yourself. Then, wrap the branches such as walnuts and laurels that you have collected in small pieces, with a piece of string, around this circle. You can also fix it by sticking it with some tape or glue. Spray it with black spray paint and, if you want, you can buy mini pumpkins that you can find in the markets and stick them on the wreath.
Mini Tangerine Pumpkins 🎃🍊
You can also use tangerines as an alternative to mini pumpkins. You can add any decoration you want by drawing on them with a gas pen. Another use is to open games by cutting the faces you draw on the peels of the tangerines you empty. Put a small candle inside and enjoy the tiny lights of your house.
We hope you have a lot of fun and scare your friends and flatmates this Halloween, and don’t forget to check out our contest on Instagram! 💙
